A diet rich in serotonin will help boost your mood. (Serotonin is a chemical that acts as a neurotransmitter. Vitamin B6 helps produce serotonin – taking a multi-vitamin can help supplement vitamin B6. Choose foods rich in serotonin like bananas, kiwi, pineapple, plums, and tomatoes. Make sure you’re consuming lots of folate, too. Magnesium is an important vitamin that produces serotonin. Stress depletes magnesium, though. Omega-3 fatty acids, commonly found in salmon, sardines, and anchovies, help maintain normal brain function.
You already know to make a choice to stop consuming certain foods and beverages – alcohol, coffee, fatty foods, sweets, anything with artificial colors or flavors, anything with preservatives, and processed foods. It’s funny how a simple diet – just plain old healthy eating – it will help you lose weight and prevent depression.
Exercise will help release endorphins (brain chemicals that help a person feel better), lower stress, and increase energy. Something as simple as taking a brisk walk or dancing to your favorite tunes will help improve your mood.
Make sure you’re exposing yourself to natural light throughout the day
Found in a variety of forms, you can alleviate depression through relaxation. Try:
- Meditation; (Walking, journaling gratitude or positive affirmations, listening to relaxing music/no lyrics or focused breathing for at least 10 minutes.)
- Focused relaxation. (Get comfortable sitting or lying down, close your eyes and focus on relaxing your body, one part at a time. Start from your head and end up at your toes.)
Clinical Hypnotherapy/Therapeutic Guided Imagery
You may feel stuck in your problems. In fact you may not even recognize the power your problems have over you. Clinical Hypnotherapy gets to the source of your self-defeating core beliefs. It will open doors that you thought were forever shut or didn’t even know were there. Often, depression is a feeling of hopelessness, anger or resentment with no direction or purpose in life. This technique is achieved with my guidance while you are in a deep state of aware relaxation. This is a very safe and lasting process to bring you to a state of ease vs. dis-ease.
Ontological Life Coaching
Using cognitive psychology techniques with a focus on being “human,” Ontological Life Coaching addresses the origin/source of depression by helping you heal any negative feelings of hopelessness, isolation and low self-esteem. Life coaching creates powerful emotional and behavioral changes by providing an examination and transformation of any negative thinking patterns into more positive ones. And, you can finally identify your core values and your life purpose.
Reiki, even in it’s basic form, transforms feelings of hopelessness and emotional turmoil/pain. It is a practice of deep relaxation that can provide " joy and well being." It gently and effectively opens and clears the subtle energy blocks, leaving you feeling relaxed and at peace. Reiki is powerful, yet wonderfully gentle and nurturing. During a session, you remain fully clothed while relaxing on a massage table. Reiki supports any medical, or supplemental healing methods you may be using. Your Reiki Master will teach you to access and trust your own inner healer.
Every word we speak, every thought we think can create joy or sadness. When you tell yourself you are too fat, too thin, a perfectionist, stupid, poor or other nonsense, this is how you will live your life. No wonder depression sets in. You feel hopeless! Begin to change your thoughts, first by noticing the negativity, and then deciding what you’d rather feel instead. An example is “I’m not feeling well today.” Change it to “Every cell in body is healthy” It can be a challenge to create the positive feel good thoughts when being negative has been a habit, but the good news is that you can!! The more you affirm, “I am whole, healthy and complete – all is well.” The more it will be.
And so it is.
